What is laser Teeth Whitening?

Laser teeth whitening uses an LED light to activate a bleaching agent in a gel that is applied to your teeth. The procedure is very noticeable, making your teeth up to 14 shades whiter in a matter of minutes.

How long does it take?

There are a number of different systems on the market, all more-or-less equally as effective. The system your dentist uses will be down to personal preference but brands such as Zoom! and Brite Smile are in widespread use.

What is entailed in the procedure?

Your teeth will first need to be cleaned and any stains removed. Your dentist will do this before he starts the whitening procedure. After that, its time for your mouth to be prepared. The gel contains hydrogen peroxide and so it should only be applied to your teeth, and not the soft tissues in your mouth. To prevent the gel from getting anywhere else in the mouth your dentist will use a dam. You will also be given goggles to protect your eyes from the laser beam.

Once the gel has been applied to the teeth the laser is directed. This process may be repeat a further two times, depending on what system your dentist uses. When finished, all traces of the gel are removed and your teeth cleaned again before your dentist will show you your new, bright smile.
