Why Tijuana for Dental Work?

Quality, price, and convenience are the key factors. Dental prices in Tijuana are significantly lower than those at home, offering the same quality of care when you choose the right clinic. While travelers from around the globe are welcomed, Tijuana’s close proximity to millions of Southern Californians and Arizonans makes a dental visit especially affordable and convenient.

Our partner dentists in Tijuana have been fully checked for clinical quality, and our verified patient reviews help you better assess service and other components important to your experience.

Regarding price, American and Canadian patients can expect to save up to 70% off the cost of dental treatment at home. For example, a single dental crown averages about $1,200 in the US, while the same make of crown will cost about $450 in Tijuana. For patients requiring more complex treatments, such as multiple implants or full mouth reconstruction, deep savings like this can run into thousands of dollars.

Below is the average treatment costs in Tijuana vs the US:

Procedure     Average cost in the USAverage cost in Tijuana
Crowns                     $1,200                                  $450
Root canal + crown           $2,200                                  $600

Is Tijuana Safe?

With rare exceptions, yes.  Every year some 300,000 tourists from around the world, particularly Americans and Canadians visit Tijuana and the Baja region for discounted shopping, sightseeing, sun-soaking, and well-known nightlife.

Tijuana is also a bustling commercial hub, with businesspeople from San Diego crossing the border daily for transactions. After years of political and social unrest, the city is experiencing a renaissance and relies on tourism to maintain a strong economy. Local authorities are committed to ensuring Tijuana is safe for leisure, business, and medical tourism.

The Tijuana border crossing is the world's busiest border crossing, and tens of thousands of people travel back and forth from the US every day without incident.

For patients seeking additional security, many of our best clinics offer shuttle service to and from the border, and the new Fast Track Medical Services Pass (see below) provides even greater convenience for medical and dental clients.

Follow the common-sense rules of the travel road, easy on the late-night Margaritas, and you can be confident of your safety!

Tijuana Travel Information for Dental Tourists

Do I Need to Speak Spanish?

No. The majority of dentists and staff in Tijuana speak excellent English, as well as clerks in hotels, restaurants, and other popular travel venues.

What Payment Methods Are Accepted in Tijuana?

Most clinics accept US and Canadian cash, as well as all major credit cards.

Getting Around Tijuana

Taxi. Any of the numerous taxis just over the border will quickly take you to the dental clinic. Bring the clinic map, address, and phone number for the driver.

Car. US auto insurance companies don’t usually overcover your vehicle in Mexico, although some do provide coverage within the first few miles of the border. If you are planning to drive, obtaining Mexican car insurance is highly recommended.

You can arrange insurance coverage online for around $10 a day, although many travelers find it cheaper and more convenient to park on the US side and walk in.

Fastrack Medical Services Pass

This is a program for quick access and return to the US once you cross back in your car. In the San Ysidro port of entry for patients of medical and hospital services in Tijuana, you have access to a special lane for your return to the US at the crossing.  Some offices can provide you with this pass to make your return to the US quick and easy!

Will a Dentist in Tijuana Accept My US or Canadian Dental Insurance?

Some clinics do accept insurance; please inquire with us as to participating clinics. While most clinics in Tijuana are not able to bill your insurance company directly, if covered you may be eligible to have a portion of the fee for your care reimbursed upon your return home. Be sure to pack any required claims forms or other documents.

What Else Should I Know about Visiting Tijuana?

During peak commute hours, wait times at the San Ysidro border can be very long. You have a number of options to beat the queues:

– One is to get a "FastPass." You can often get these from hotels and restaurants who acquire them for their customers, and it is worth inquiring when booking your hotel if they offer a Fast Pass.

--Another workaround is to park your car on the US side of the border and walk, take a taxi, or the dental clinic's shuttle into town. There are plenty of taxis on the Mexico side that will scoot you on a five or ten-minute ride to your dental office.

In Tijuana, sedation is not used as commonly as it is in the US and Canada. Of course, local anesthesia is used when required for all treatments, but for patients requiring sedation, it is important to find a clinic that offers this service. Full sedation requires a licensed anesthesiologist, and selected clinics can provide you with this upon request. The cost will be around $400-$600.

If you require anxiety medication, such as Valium, you will need to request it before your appointment or bring it along with you.

Mexican Auto Insurance

Usually, US car insurance companies don't offer coverage in Mexico, though some cover the first 25 miles.  (The clinics are all less than one mile from the border).  If your insurance company does not offer coverage in Mexico, you can buy temporary car insurance for Mexico. Some clinics do offer secure parking, and we can direct you to those offices.

I was there 3 weeks ago and had my lower jaw done. The first contact was very good. After I sent the X-ray images to the clinic, very easily via WhatsApp, specific questions were asked to assess the current situations. All eventualities were discussed/mentioned. I then received a cost plan very quickly. The appointment arrangement also worked perfectly. Flights booked, that’s it. When we arrived in Antalya (due to a delay at 3 a.m.) we were personally picked up and taken to the hotel despite the delay. On the morning of the operation we were picked up by the driver in good time. The treatment that followed was the best treatment I have ever received from a dentist. Since I am an “anxious patient”, I was immediately given something to calm me down. Then, on the chair, a spray was sprayed into my mouth before the injections, which numbed everything a bit so that I hardly noticed the injections. In total the treatment lasted 3 hours. I really didn't feel any pain at any time. You just have to “endure” the noises and vibrations. I was then given painkillers and antibiotics and taken back to the hotel. When the anesthesia wore off I only had slight pain. In the evening I was able to eat mashed potatoes and fried eggs. I don't use the temporary solution that was made. Since I also had bone augmentation, no solid temporary solution could be used. Now I'll wait until January and then the teeth will finally be firmly attached to the implants. So I can recommend this clinic without reservation.

Just got back from Antalya in turkey with my temporary fixed dentures after have the first part of my “All on 6” treatment. These guys have been amazing with myself and my two friends who both had veneer crowns. I can’t recommend them enough if you plan on getting any dental work done over in turkey. Once I’ve finished my treatment in about 6 months time I will leave another review or update this one. UPDATE!!! Now completely finished my all on 6 treatment and wow. I have an amazing smile. Still the best place to go I’m my opinion. All the staff are very friendly. VIP transfers. Amazing dental facilities. I would recommend them to anyone who was looking to get some dental work.
