Give yourself something to smile about to save your tooth—and a small fortune—with a root canal in Antalya, Turkey. You can also take the opportunity to enjoy a holiday, and even factoring in accommodation and flight costs, you will still be paying less than just the treatment cost at home.
For Brits, the myth of NHS dental ‘care’ seems farther away than ever with access to dentists increasingly more problematical--sometimes forcing people to take drastic measures…
If you are struggling to find an NHS dentist don’t let things get out of hand. Start making your own arrangements for the lack of NHS dental services and incorporate your dental care into your annual holiday—it could well save you a lot of pain and hassle.
Root canal treatment is indicated when the soft tissue in the centre of a tooth becomes infected. Removing the soft tissue and filling the resulting cavity prevents more infections, which will hopefully save your tooth.
The soft tissue is made of nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue that essentially becomes redundant after the tooth has emerged from the gum. Thus, it can all be safely removed without affecting the functionality of the tooth.
A root canal is a suitable procedure for dental tourists as it is really just a glorified tooth filling, albeit it takes a little longer to carry out than your everyday filling. Several steps may be required to complete the procedure, which may take up to 2 weeks to complete.
Firstly, if you have an infection in the tooth you will have to take a course of antibiotics to clear it up before the actual root canal procedure can be undertaken. Many patients present with an acute infection, for example, swelling and pain in the gum area around the infected tooth, possibly with pus oozing out. If you are planning to get your root canal in Turkey then you should try and get the infection cleared up before you go to your appointment in Antalya.
Secondly, once you have completed your course of antibiotics (hopefully prescribed by a dentist at home) then you can visit the dentist in Antalya for your treatment. They will examine your mouth and take appropriate scans and x-rays to confirm there is a sign of infection, and to assess how many roots and canals your tooth has. Front teeth usually only have one root canal, whereas back teeth can have up to six, which will obviously take your dentist more time to treat (and cost more money!)
The dentist will discuss the findings with you and treatment will be commenced if you are happy to proceed. It may take several hours to complete, but apart from being rather boring, you won’t feel a thing as you will be given appropriate anaesthesia. Some dentists provide eye glasses that show movies, or other distractions, such as music.
Once the procedure is complete, a temporary filling is placed, just so that it will be easier to check that no infection remains before the permanent filling is placed.
Finally, you may need to strengthen the tooth after a root canal with a crown. If the dentist offers CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacture) then you may be able to have it carried out while you wait, otherwise you will have to return a few days later once the crown has been made in another laboratory.
The price of a root canal in Antalya is around a sixth of the cost at home—saving you hundreds of pounds that you’re sure to be happier spending on a holiday than giving it to a dentist!
