Pricing also varies based on the materials selected for the crown or bridge. While porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) is generally the most cost-effective choice, patients may opt for more aesthetic and durable alternatives like all-ceramic, zirconia, or e.max, which offer enhanced longevity and a more natural appearance.

- Dental implant (only): Treatment involves the surgical placement of a single titanium post.

- Implant with crown and abutment: This two-stage treatment involves the placement of a titanium post into the jawbone; once fused, a crown is placed using an adjoining abutment approximately four months later.

A dental implant consists of three main parts, each playing a vital role in restoring your smile. First is the implant itself, a small post typically made of titanium that is surgically embedded into the jawbone, acting as an artificial tooth root to provide a stable foundation. 

Next is the abutment, a connector piece that is attached to the implant once it has fully integrated with the jawbone. The abutment securely holds the final component, the crown, which is the visible part of the tooth. Crafted to match the size, shape and colour of your natural teeth, the crown completes the restoration, giving you a natural-looking result that functions like your real tooth.

Implant Procedure

The first part of the procedure generally involves placing the implant into the jaw. You will be given a local anaesthetic or IV sedation for this. An incision is made in the gum so the dentist can access the jawbone, and then the implant is placed into the jaw. You will need to wait a minimum of three months before the abutment can be installed and the crown attached. This is so the implant can fuse with the jawbone in a process called osseointegration, which provides a sufficiently strong platform for your false tooth to be attached.

In the case of an inadequate jawbone, patients may need a bone graft procedure before getting an implant. 

After successful osseointegration, you will return for the crown to be attached. The final procedure only requires opening the gum to expose the implant, attaching the abutment, restoring the gum and attaching the crown.
