Cancun In Brief

For those who need to recharge their batteries by doing absolutely nothing, the miles of sandy white beaches, fringed with palms and lapped by gentle azure-colored waters are sure to do the trick. However, there are endless other activities to pursue before your dental treatment, including snorkeling, diving, and exploring Mayan culture. Additionally, ecotourism is well-established in Cancun, as residents are keen to maintain the beauty of the land amidst the influx of leisure tourism.

With all its natural wonders, Cancun offers all the amenities to satisfy modern vacationers, including impressive hotels to suit any budget, restaurants catering to all tastes, sophisticated bars, and trendy nightclubs, along with glitzy shopping malls and chic boutiques.

Cancun has become a renowned destination for dental tourism, celebrated for its stunning natural beauty and exceptional medical care. In the past decade, numerous clinics have gained recognition for offering high-quality treatments, including complex procedures like dental implants and cosmetic dentistry. By partnering with verified dentists from Mexico and around the world,  Dental Departures can help you find the best dentist in Cancun at the most competitive prices, guaranteed.

Where Is Cancun?

Cancun is located in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, on the northeast coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. One of the easternmost points in Mexico, it is just north of the Riviera Maya–Mexico’s Caribbean coast.

Cancun's central location to the US and Canada allows for convenient flights ranging from 2 to 5 hours from most North American airports. The high volume of tourism leads to low airfares and an abundance of discounts on accommodations for all budgets.

Cancun is a popular starting point for exploring historic sites and resort destinations. Visitors can easily access the ancient ruins of Tulum and Chichen Itza, the diving spots of Cozumel and Akumal, the beach resorts of Playa del Carmen, and even the neighboring country of Belize to the south.

Why Visit a Dentist in Cancun?

The top dental clinics in Cancun are some of the most advanced, with international hygienic standards and state-of-the-art facilities to rival any clinic in North America. Similarly, dentists in Cancun are highly trained with specialist knowledge in their particular areas of expertise. To meet the demands of international patients seeking dental treatment, clinics in Cancun maintain high standards of care. Patients can trust that all clinics listed on Dental Departures’ website meet our strict quality criteria, offering superior service at a reasonable price.

Furthermore, the abundance of nonstop flights from most major cities in North America makes Cancun one of the top choices for dental tourism. With proximity to most major cities in the US and Canada, multiple visits are a realistic option for patients requiring return trips. For more extensive dental work, the savings can be even bigger, saving you thousands.

Where to Stay?

As a renowned tourist destination, Cancun boasts a wide variety of accommodation options to suit all budgets and preferences. From self-catering beachfront villas and condos to Airbnb and a full range of hotels, you’ll have no trouble finding a great place to stay year-round.

Is Cancun Safe?

With rare exceptions, yes. Despite the social and political unrest that has at times invaded tourist resorts, Cancun welcomed millions of leisure, business, medical, and dental visitors each year. If you use common sense (and go easy on the late-night Margaritas!), you are likely to be quite safe in this popular resort town.

For those who wish additional security, many of our best dentists offer airport pickup and drop-off, along with hotel shuttles to and from the clinic. Contact our Customer Care Team for more details.

Is the Quality of Care as Good as Back Home?

Yes–providing you choose a qualified dentist. This is where Dental Departures can help. Conducting background checks on prospective dentists is time-consuming; you will be one step ahead if you book an appointment with any of our pre-screened dentists. We have already performed extensive background checks on, for example, dentist qualifications, and hygiene protocols. When booking with Dental Departures, you can be certain your dentist is qualified and the clinic adheres to internationally recognized safety procedures.

We also provide verified patient reviews, allowing you to gain insight into other people’s experiences. All these measures are designed to help you make a decision with confidence before booking your appointment.

What Happens if Something Goes Wrong? Does My Dentist Guarantee the Work?

Yes–all our dental clinics carry warranties on both the procedures they perform and on any materials used, such as crowns or dentures.

While our best clinics provide the highest quality care, no dentist anywhere in the world can guarantee 100% clinical success. In the rare event of a complication, Dental Departures will advocate on your behalf to resolve any issues if you have booked an appointment through us. Fewer than one percent of our patients encounter problems; in those cases, we ensure that any issues are promptly addressed.

What Payment Methods Are Accepted by Cancun Dental Offices?

US cash is the preferred payment method accepted by most dental offices, although other methods of payment are now accepted, including major credit cards, and traveler's checks. Please note that a small processing fee of around 3-4% is usually charged on credit card payments.

Is My US or Canadian Dental Insurance accepted?

Although Cancun dental clinics will not bill your insurance company directly, you may be able to claim your treatment costs once you have returned home. If you carry dental insurance, you'll want to contact your insurance provider before you book your appointment to ask them if they will reimburse you for out-of-network care. If they do, ask them to provide you with the forms or documents to take with you for completion by your overseas dentist.

What Else is There in and Around Cancun?

Dental patients will be pleased to know that Cancun offers activities to suit all interests and abilities. While it is one of the ultimate places to relax, for the energetic there are also plenty of things to do.

Mexico has embraced golf’s popularity and now rivals the Caribbean’s finest golfing destinations. All of Cancun’s golf courses are open to the public. Look out for special discounts for hotel guests or other offers for playing after 2 pm, for example.

Given the abundant water around the area, it’s no surprise that aquatic activities are a major highlight. Before your dental procedure, enjoy an exciting jungle tour on a jet ski or speedboat or take a tranquil glass-bottomed boat ride. Diving is another favorite pastime, catering to all skill levels, thanks to the coral reefs off the coast and in nearby Cozumel. Experienced divers should not miss the opportunity to explore the underwater caves, such as the cenotes of the Yucatan Peninsula or the Cave of Sharks (Cuevas de los Tiburones).

For culture enthusiasts, there is much to see in and around Cancun, including museums, galleries, and Mayan ruins such as El Ray, in the Hotel Zone in Cancun. Slightly further afield scattered throughout the Yucatan peninsula are other archaeological sites, including Chichen Itza and Tulum.

Cancun boasts an extraordinary nightlife. Sophisticated hotel bars and restaurants serve cocktails and live music. There are plenty of other bars, clubs, and discos catering to all musical tastes that open until dawn.

Cancun also offers an inexhaustible array of shopping for all tastes. For Mexican crafts, La Casa del Arte Popular Mexicano is a good place to start as is Mercado Coral Negro, an open air-venue next to the Forum By The Sea shopping mall.

When Is the Best Time to Visit One of Our Cancun Dentists?

Cancun’s tropical climate makes it good to visit at any time of year, as temperatures average 80°F (26°C) all year round. However, the off-season is May through October when temperatures can rise into the 90s °F–offset by cool evening sea breezes.

During these months, you can find great bargains on airfare, lodging, and shopping, along with special seasonal discounts for your dental needs.

What's the Downside? What Should I Know About Visiting Cancun?

Depending on the season, ocean currents may be strong. Check the colored flags planted on the beach. Lifeguards are mostly found at hotel beaches so make sure you stay close to the hotels if you are not a seasoned swimmer.

While all our dentists offer local anesthesia, full sedation is not offered as standard in Mexico as it is in the US and Canada. Some clinics do offer full sedation with advance notice. This service costs around $400-$600. Patients who suffer from anxiety and who require oral sedative medication, such as Valium, should make a request before the appointment.

I was there 3 weeks ago and had my lower jaw done. The first contact was very good. After I sent the X-ray images to the clinic, very easily via WhatsApp, specific questions were asked to assess the current situations. All eventualities were discussed/mentioned. I then received a cost plan very quickly. The appointment arrangement also worked perfectly. Flights booked, that’s it. When we arrived in Antalya (due to a delay at 3 a.m.) we were personally picked up and taken to the hotel despite the delay. On the morning of the operation we were picked up by the driver in good time. The treatment that followed was the best treatment I have ever received from a dentist. Since I am an “anxious patient”, I was immediately given something to calm me down. Then, on the chair, a spray was sprayed into my mouth before the injections, which numbed everything a bit so that I hardly noticed the injections. In total the treatment lasted 3 hours. I really didn't feel any pain at any time. You just have to “endure” the noises and vibrations. I was then given painkillers and antibiotics and taken back to the hotel. When the anesthesia wore off I only had slight pain. In the evening I was able to eat mashed potatoes and fried eggs. I don't use the temporary solution that was made. Since I also had bone augmentation, no solid temporary solution could be used. Now I'll wait until January and then the teeth will finally be firmly attached to the implants. So I can recommend this clinic without reservation.

Wonderful Clinic. The clinic staff is helpful at every step. I had concerns before coming to the clinic, but now I am very satisfied. DT. RASIH conjured up a beautiful smile. Very committed, paying attention to every detail. The coordinator Idil was very helpful. My wife and I are going back in March for my wife's dental treatment. I wholeheartedly recommend.

Hello everyone, I can only agree with the other positive reviews. My treatment, which consisted of zirconium crowns, was well organized and carried out very competently by a young, cheerful dentist. I wasn't promised too much and I can say that it looks very aesthetic Our translator, Aysim, was always present during my treatment if there were any questions. The stay and the rich buffet in the hotel were also great. Conclusion: I can recommend this treatment to anyone who is dissatisfied with their current dental situation (discolored, eroded) and has good tooth structure

Saenger

I couldn’t be happier about my treatment! The team was very professional and helpful from the beginning to the end. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking to get a treatment. Thank you so much!!
