A week’s holiday should give you ample time to complete your treatment while not feeling rushed. This will also give you an opportunity to re-visit the dentist if a follow-up appointment is required, even if the actual procedure only takes an hour or so.

In general:

• Everyday dentistry, like fillings and teeth whitening, can be completed in just one or two hours.

• Crowns and veneers usually require at least two appointments, although some clinics with in-house dental laboratories may offer same-day turnaround times (depending on the complexity of the work).

• Dental implant treatment will normally require two separate trips to Alanya: the first for the dental implant surgery and the second for the final restoration (i.e. a crown or fixed bridge) to be attached around four months later.

With direct flights from the UK, Scandinavia, Germany and other European to the region, the pretty coastal town of Alanya is a convenient holiday destination for sun-seekers who enjoy a slower pace of life, without the normal crowds of other resort towns on the Turkish Riviera.

Situated on the central Mediterranean coast, the area promises wide stretches of beach (such as Cleopatra Beach, where legend has it, the Egyptian queen swam about), as well as plentiful hotels, restaurants, cafes and shops.

At its heart, Alanya manages to retain a certain old-city feel. The historic city surrounds a magnificent harbour and bay, with breathtaking hazy-blue mountain silhouettes.

And it is the Old Town area where you’ll find the impressive Alanya Castle, a giant Seljuk-era fort that now operates as an open-air museum above a rocky beachfront. Here, you’ll also notice Alanya’s iconic tiled Ottoman-era villas and the octagonal Red Tower, the town’s main landmark that dates all the way back to 1226.

It should be noted that prospective patients from most Western & EU nations, as well as the UK, can receive a 3-month tourist visa upon arrival in Turkey (all you need is a valid passport).

Alanya does not have its own international airport; that said, the town is still easy to reach when flying into Antalya. The region’s main airport is 115 km (72 miles) west of Alanya and receives flights from over a dozen airports in the UK alone.

Return flights from Bristol, London or Birmingham to Antalya cost between EUR 40–100.

A smaller airport, Gazipa?a, also has some flights from across the continent and is much closer, at 33 km (21 miles) to the southeast of Alanya.

There are also direct bus routes and taxis in operation along the scenic route from Antalya to Alanya.
